  1. Testing via Electrical Conductivity
  2. As the name suggests, electrical conductivity provides information on
  3. how well a material conducts electricity. This non-destructive method
  4. provides information regarding the microstructure, mechanical properties
  5. and changes in composition. In industries such as aerospace, aluminum
  6. processing and precious metals, this plays a crucial role. The
  7. SIGMASCOPE® SMP350 is used, for example, for testing on aircraft wings.
  8. It was specially developed for measuring the electrical conductivity of
  9. non-ferrous metals or non-magnetizable metals in accordance with DIN EN
  10. 2004-1 and allows conclusions to be drawn about the hardness and
  11. strength of heat-treated materials, among other things. The conductivity
  12. of aluminum alloys for anodizing processes can also be measured easily
  13. and non-destructively. The phase-sensitive eddy current method is used
  14. for the measurement.
  15. With the SIGMASCOPE® GOLD B and C hand-held gauges, you can test
  16. non-destructively one of the most precious materials: gold. The density
  17. of the base material tungsten is almost exactly the same as the density
  18. of gold – but the electrical conductivity of both differs significantly.
  19. This type of non-destructive material testing takes advantage of this
  20. fact. For example, the measurement of electrical conductivity in
  21. accordance with DIN 50994 allows the immediate detection of
  22. counterfeits.
