\section{Overview}
The goal is to repair an old Commodore computer monitor. This particular monitor, the 1902A has two inputs. One for composite, and one for a mode which the C128 must run in, in order to produce video output for C64 compatibility mode or something. I'm not really sure. (todo). This means RGBI input must work.
Currently, the monitor has errors on both RGBI input, as well as composite input. This means that the errors are likely common to both signal paths.
\tableofcontents
\section{Work Log}
I picked up an old HP TV service manual (6945A) for this project. I am not knowledgable about televisions, but the more I read, the more I think I can handle this. I have also the manual for the monitor, though it is quite a bit sparse, comparably.
Quite a bit of the Commodore 1902A TV circuitry (H sync, V sync, etc) is in a few ICs.
The waveforms in the Commodore manual were created with a (standard?) NTSC test signal, the \textbf{10 bar gated rainbow pattern signal}. I am currently researching how to generate that myself, without forking out the cash for a video tester (Cheapest I saw the other day was \$70. I wouldn't pay more than \$20.

\title{\textbf{Flammable Gas Sensor}}
\author{Steak Electronics}
\date{}
\begin{document}
\maketitle
\tableofcontents
\section{Overview}
Shop needs a flammable gas sensor, for safety.
\section{Chip Hunting}
I'm looking at the following:
\begin{itemize}
\item SGAS711
\item 200K fixed resistor
\item 1M potentiometer
\item Arduino Nano (for speed)
\item Ample Power Supply They are recommending 7 Volts for the heater. So, one rated for 1A.
\item led notifiers
\item
\end{itemize}
\subsection{Gas Sensor Tuning}
The flammable gas sensor has different sensitivities for different gases (see data sheet, Figure 8). I'm going to need to test for something specific, i.e. if the shop needs to watch out for acetone, I should test acetone. Of course, if enough of a flammable gas is in the air, it will set it off no matter what, but I should focus on what the danger is for calibrating.
Based on the resistance chart, I'm going to use a fixed 200K and a 1M pot. Pots are to be avoided, but here we need to calibrate over time. For the response of the v divider, the sensor is not linear, but closer (though not quite) logarithmic. So what I will do, is have to use some math on the micro, and use the formula they give in the Datasheet, to get a logarithmic output that appears linear (figure 5). For my needs, it is good enough.
\includegraphics[scale=0.8]{../pics/resistances.png}
\captionof{figure}{Application Note resistance table}
\subsubsection{Fixed resistors}
If these sensors are consistent enough, possibly I could use fixed resistors later.
\subsubsection{Gas Sensor Power Usage}
Rated at 900mW for 7V, so about 150mA (128mA). I know from prior experience these things heat up, so we need plenty of power.
\subsubsection{PCB Layout}
The gas sensor must be sideways, as there is excessive dust in the shop so, the holes will be on the side. I will do a 90 degree edge mount pcb.
\subsection{Switcher}
STS1024S6V5 Seems like a fair option for now. Output is 6.5 volts which is enough. Will use a module. Need to make a footprint.
\subsection{Enclosure}
We need a box that is tall enough to be a cube. Also want square, not rectangular. I plan to have the leds light from the back of the pcb. The pcb will be the top cover / front. The top cover / front will be the box, put on its side, so dust doesn't collect on the leds. Need a cube.

\title{\textbf{Commodore 1902A Repair}}
\author{Steak Electronics}
\date{}
\begin{document}
%\maketitle
\includegraphics[scale=0.4]{../pics/DSCN1699.JPG}
\captionof{figure}{Commodore 1902A 14'' CRT Monitor}
\section{Overview}
\section{Work Log}

\subsection{Traps and Things to Beware}
First thing was to obtain the key from Windows 8. Control panel - system shows the last 5 digits of the key but nothing else (fuck these guys). A post on wikihow said you could get it from the registry but it wasn't there. Magical Jelly Bean keyfinder was able to read the Windows 8 key. Now I have the key, just need installation media.
Right before starting, I was aware of installing Windows 10, and how you must flash to USB using a special tool (the iso). I looked for the Windows 8 ISO but found only 8.1. Someone mentioned that you can not use the 8 key in an 8.1 install, so right away I was looking only for 8 (which is essentially unfindable). Later on I learnt that you can use any key for 8.1, and then use the official key for 8. Quite amusing that 8.1 even exists. It should be SP1 not 8.1. Why don't keys for 8 work for 8.1? Anti-consumer behavior at its finest.
So I obtained the official 8.1 ISO and installed it to flash using the Windows 7 USB/DVD creator. It is named Win7 but works for 8 (fuck these guys). I tried to run it from a live Win8 session but it failed.
Instead, I ended up booting this toshiba laptop and going to the BIOS (not calling it UEFI, not a chance). This was another obstacle. In Win 8, you must hold down shift when powering down, or go somewhere in the control panel to set it to advanced boot mode or something. Then when booting, hit the F12 key.\footnote{Reference:https://web.archive.org/web/https://www.4winkey.com/computer-help/how-to-access-enter-bios-on-toshiba-laptop.html} All bullshit. I am seriously considering personally boycotting Toshiba for how this was. Anyways, after you figure that out, if you haven't blown away the recovery partition on the HDD you should be able to use the Toshiba recovery tools, or if not, you can use the USB flash drive.
\footnote{I should mention here, that one other thing I tried was the built in Toshiba Recovery Media Creator. This was told to me to be in the search menu (ctrl - c for charms menu, then search, then toshiba recovery) but it was not. Instead I found it in program files. I tried running it, and it failed to format with some cryptic error. This may have just been because this particular windows installation was corrupted somehow, but another thing that failed... Why does anyone use this OS I don't understand.}
After the trouble of setting up the USB flash drive, I ended up finding that the Toshiba recovery tools were still there, so I opted for that.
